CD 162 - Type II, Mold G10
*this piece has soot around base, base damage
Features: Reworking of CD 162 I, Mold G10 and I, Mold G10.1 to widen wire groove and strengthen lettering. On front, LYNCHBURG is now stronger with rounded edges. The L logo is still weak, especially at the top. Blot outs are barely distinguishable on most pieces. On reverse, U.S.A. is now stronger with rounded edges; MADE IN is often very worn and indistinct especially the upper half. The drip points on this piece are unusually large and rarely seen on Lynchburgs. This mold was retooled a second time to further widen the wire groove, CD 162 III, Mold G10.
Further Information: The original Type I, Mold G10 version of this mold is the only mold of CD 162 that retains all of the reverse lettering from the Gayner mold, including the full Gayner style number, NO. 36-190. That version was quickly retooled to replace -190 with a weak MADE IN U.S.A. (CD 162 I, Mold G10.1). The mold was later reworked to widen the wire groove and strengthen the front lettering (CD 162 II, Mold G10), then reworked again to further widen the wire groove, CD 162 III, Mold G10.
Mold Number Location: On reverse centered below NO.
