CD 162 - Type I, Mold G10

Features: Front lettering is weak, slightly uneven, with rounded edges. There are areas of roughness beneath LYNCHBURG where the mold was resurfaced to remove GAYNER. On reverse, lettering is strong and even with rounded edges; it is unchanged from the Gayner mold. This mold was retooled to correct the style number (CD 162 I, Mold G10.1), and then reworked twice to enlarge the wire groove (CD 162 II, Mold G10 and III, Mold G10).

Additional Information: This is the only mold of CD 162 that retains all of the reverse lettering from the Gayner mold, including the full Gayner style number, NO. 36-190. Evidently very few of these were made before the mold was corrected, since this is a rare piece (only two are known). This mold was later reworked to widen the wire groove and strengthen the front lettering (CD 162 II, Mold G10), then reworked again to further widen the wire groove (CD 162 III, Mold G10).
