CD 154 - Type III, Mold L6
|
|
Color: Ice Aqua
w/tiny bubbles
|
Base Type:
CDP:W
|
Features: Lettering is generally even and sharp with triangular edges, placed close to the base. On front, the L logo is weaker with rounded edges. On reverse, tops of 44 are flat; the mold number is clear and is die stamped. On some pieces, the lower part of the skirt shows a series of faint horizontal machining marks that begin about 20mm from the base and extend to the base rim (see below).
Additional Information: This is the second CD 154 Lynchburg mold with this number (CD 154, Type II Mold L6), a rare occurrence among Lynchburgs. It is uncertain whether this is a reworking of the original Type II, Mold L6 to repair deterioration of the mold surface (see below), a modification of another mold, or a new mold. In any case, CD 154 Type III, Mold L6 is a slightly different shape, yet seems to have replaced the original Type II Mold L, and so carries the same mold number.
Mold Number Location: on reverse above and between NO. and 44.

Comparison of CD 154 Mold 6, Type II (left) and Type III (right)
-
Comparison of the mold numbers on CD 154, Type II L6 (left) and Type III L6 (right). Note the very worn lettering on the left mold and the sharp clean lettering on the right mold. The deteriotation of the original mold suggests that Type II, L6 replaced it, although it is unclear whether Type II L 6 was reworked into Type III L6, or whether Type III L6 is a new mold, or modified from yet another mold.
Series of horizontal machining tool marks on the lower 20mm of the skirt of Type III, L6.
This could be evidence of reworking an original mold, or simply machining marks from making a new mold. |
