CD 154 - Type II, Mold L1.1
*this piece has base damage to the right of LYNCHBURG
Features: Retooling of CD 154 Type II, Mold L1 to correct lettering. On front, L logo is added, off center to the right and usually very faint. On reverse, the backwards 44 is corrected; there is a slight roughness beneath the two letters (see below); the second 4 is larger and differently shaped, a feature unique to this mold. On reverse, there is no period after NO; O is larger than N; lower curve of S is larger than top. Lettering is often well worn; the period after A is faint and often not visible. On many pieces the mold number is often very faint or not visible at all. However, evidently the lettering was cleaned because on some later production pieces the mold number is crisp (see below). This version of the mold was used throughout Lynchburg's production of this style; it occurs in almost all the colors in which Lynchburg insulators occur as well as with several kinds of drip points.
Additional Information: There is a second CD 154 Lynchburg mold with this number (CD 154 Type III, Mold L1), a rare occurrence among Lynchburgs. It is uncertain whether it is a reworking of the original Type II, Mold L1 to repair deterioration of the mold surface (see below), a modification of another mold, or a new mold. In any case, CD 154 Type III, Mold L1 is a slightly different shape, yet seems to have replaced the original Type II Mold L1, and so carries the same mold number (for comparison, see CD 154 Type II, Mold L1).
Mold Number Location: on reverse above and to the left of 44.
