CD 106 - Type II, Mold L9.1

Color: Clear with slight Pink Tint
Base Type: RDP:r

Features: Retooling of CD106, Mold L9 to strengthen the skirt. The front was machined about 10mm, beginning very shallow at the top and increasing toward the base, resulting in the weakening of the very bottom strokes of LYNCHBURG. The loss is not pronounced, most noticeable on the G. The reverse was machined beginning 15mmm from the base and increasing in depth to the base, resulting in the increasing loss of the lower part of MADE IN and almost all of U.S.A., with only the top of the U visible.

Variations: This mold was damaged sometime after it was retooled, yet was still used. A small piece of the base on the front just below HB of LYNCHBURG was broken, allowing extra glass to fill the void. It is visible on the photo above. All pieces made after this damage show this feature (see below). For collectors who need specific descriptions, a lower case letter is added following the mold number to designate which version of the mold: CD 106, Mold 9.1a for the undamaged mold, and CD 106, Mold 9.1b for the damaged mold (see also Broken or Damaged Molds).

Mold Number Location: On reverse above period following NO.

Lettering Images:

reverse loss of lettering
On reverse U.S.A. is largely gone; only the top of U remains (mark on the right is a "kiss").
